Rodney King Confirmed For Boxing Match With Former Cop

Shannon Rose sent along the following:

(Boothwyn, PA) – Rodney King, the man known throughout the world for pleading with a nation, “Can’t we all get along?” is ready to lace up his boxing gloves and take on the challenge of fighting a former member of the Pennsylvania Police Department.

King was the victim of police brutality, committed by Los Angeles police officers, and the L.A. Riots which followed brought him national attention.

Last seen on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Sober Living”, Rodney has been busy dedicating his life to sobriety and becoming a better father to his kids. Since signing up with the Celebrity Boxing Federation last month, King has been eager to step into the ring to face a determined opponent.

King will fight former Pennsylvania PD officer, Simon Aouad to headline Celebrity Boxing 11 on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Boothwyn.

“I know some people will see the irony here,” said Rodney King about boxing a police officer.  “But I would have fought anyone who was worthy.”

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 250 pounds, King sounds supremely confident about his first foray into the “squared circle.”

“I take this very seriously,” King stated. “Never felt better—physically and in the mind.”

To demonstrate his seriousness, King is training in San Bernardino, Calif. with Icon fighters at American University.

King, who’s always possessed athletic ability, will take on Aouad at the Maple Zone Sports & Fitness Center in Boothwyn. The doors open at 7:30 p.m.

King has decided to present the Boys & Girls Clubs of America with a portion of his celebrity boxing pay-per-view proceeds in order to support, inspire and help young people realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
