Reader Feedback: Fan Run-In Incident At SummerSlam

The following are a number of WrestleZone.com fan reader feedback pieces on the "fan run-in spot" from the Randy Orton vs. John Cena match at SummerSlam.

For backstage news on who exactly the man who ran in was, read this article.

READER FEEDBACK:

Korey Budd sent along the following: I could tell if the fan went after the ref or the ref cut him off but he was choking the WWE official out.  This happened when Cena had Orton in the STFU both wrestlers stopped and Cena seemed rather disappointed.  The match then picked up where Orton stunned Cena with the top rope and went in to hit the RKO.

Daniel Ayala sent along the following: I WAS SITTING IN THE SECTION ACROSS THE TV CAMERAS WAITING FOR RANDY ORTON TO TAP…WHEN OUT OF THE SECTION CLOSEST TO THE RAMP A FAN JUMPS THE BARRICADE AND RUSHES THE RING. TWO SECURITY (BIG SECURITY) GUARDS ATTEMPTED TO STOP HIM BUT HE MANAGED TO JUMP INTO THE RING AND KICK THE SECURITY AWAY.  HE MANAGED TO GRAB THE REFEREE AND TO AVOID BEING DRAGGED OUT THE "FAN" BEAR HUGS AND IS ACTUALLY CHOKING THE REF TO THE POINT WHERE HE ACTUALLY STARTS TO TURN RED, THE TWO SECURITY GUARDS WERE ABLE TO PULL HIM OFF THE REF AFTER ABOUT A GOOD 15-20 SECONDS AND DRAGGED HIM TO THE BACK.  MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT THIS "FAN" WAS SCRIPTED INTO THE MATCH TO AGAIN, HAVE ORTON WALK OUT WITH THE BELT…BUT SEEING ORTON AND CENA’S FACE AND THE FACT THAT FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING I GOT A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FAN BEHIND THE SLIGHTLY CLOSED CURTAIN…THERE WAS NO WAY IT WAS SCRIPTED…POOR GUY WAS SLAMED INTO A WALL…HARD.

Joey Vintage sent along the following: I just got back from the ppv, and the run in looked legit. Everyone thought it was just a crazy fan. The guy ran in and put a rear naked choke on the ref until people peeled him off. They ignored the run in in  the replays that they showed, which seemed indicate that it wasn’t supposed to happen. The only thing that made me think it was a work was that when they were dragging the guy off, he was hiding his face in his arm. Like why hide your face if you’re stupid enough to hop the rail. What do you have to hide? You’re obviously doing it to get your face on tv, right… If it was a work it was masterfully done.

Ben Mehlan sent along the following: Hi there, was at the show and had a pretty good look at the incident. The fan was wearing pants and a white shirt, which was tucked in.  They also appeared to be in pretty good shape for being just a "fan."  Most fan run-ins I’ve seen, they try to keep the cameras focused on the match unless the wrestlers acknowledge it.  Also thought it was strange that they took the "fan" towards the backstage area, rather than throwing him back in the crowd and taking him out that way.  They didn’t show his interference on the replay, but they did acknowledge the run-in on WWE.com, so I’d say there’s more signs pointing to this being a work than anything.  Also, this is something they could use going into the all-submission Breaking Point PPV, since it was a submission spot at the time.
