MTV Covers Batista Mocking Kanye West During Slammy’s

The following is an excerpt from an article on MTV.com:

One of the great benefits of the hyperactive media culture is that you can do something embarrassing and people move on with their lives pretty quickly. Cultural memory has gotten much shorter, which means that it’s much easier for stars to shrug things off and movie on with their lives. It takes an incredible incident to take permanent residence in the public’s hive mind. Unfortunately for Kanye West, his interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is one of those events, and it continues to live on in Internet memes and television parodies. Taylor Lautner poked fun at West during his opening monologue on this past Saturday’s (December 12) episode of "Saturday Night Live," and last night the WWE poked fun at the incident during their annual awards show, which they call the Slammy Awards.

Monday night’s episode of "WWE Raw" featured the annual Slammy Awards and was hosted by comedian, conservative commentator and former "Monday Night Football" trainwreck Dennis Miiller. The prizes recognize wrestling-specific categories like Match of the Year, Superstar of the Year, Tag Team of the Year and Extreme Moment of the Year. During the presentation of Diva of the Year (which recognizes the best female wrestler, as voted by WWE fans), WWE star Batista appeared at the podium to interrupt winner Maria Kanellis in a parody of the West/Swift incident. "That’s great, congratulations, I’m really happy for you," Batista said. "No disrespect, but let’s talk about the greatest award ever: The Screwjob of the Year award, which goes to me! I got robbed last night. I should be World Heavyweight Champion, and I should be up for the Superstar of the Year award." (Batista lost to a championship match to the Undertaker on a technicality in a pay-per-view match the night before.) The 285-pound star was then lead away by security.
