Original ECW Founder Comments On WWE Shutting It Down

The man responsible for the creation of the original ECW, Tod Gordon, returned to the airwaves of "Your Home Of Wrestling Radio" for an exclusive interview as part of Monday Night Mayhem’s eight-year anniversary celebration, and was welcomed back to the program by The Big Mosh, Blade, "The Chairman Of The Board" Todd Vincent, & MNM’s originals (Chaz & Pharoh). Tod has not spoken publicly in close to two years, but broke his silence on this special evening with an earth-shattering announcement…one that could change the face of the wrestling industry in the forthcoming months ahead. "You guys been great for eight years. Thank God you had me here to pick up the slack, and I have a big announcement here tonight: I just got off the phone with Paul Heyman about five to ten minutes ago, and 17 months from now, July 2011, we have a huge announcement, and it’s starting in August 2011. Be there in July for the greatest collaboration in the history of professional wrestling…17 months from tonight!"

Last Tuesday night on ECW On Syfy, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon came out to address the future of the WWE’s Tuesday night brand, and in the process said that ECW would be going off the air next Tuesday night. ECW Originals Tommy Dreamer & Taz (and many others) have gone public with their comments about the shutting down of the ECW brand on WWE television & the final chapter being written in ECW. Tod also wanted to respond publicly to the decision by Vince McMahon to bring down the ECW curtain once & for all…one that he believes was well overdue. "ECW was never about the letters; ECW was a symbol for people who worked their ass off every night, whether there was 5,000 people there or five people there. It’s about a work ethic. ECW is not about a title; it’s not some game show that Vince did…It’s the real deal."

More is contained in this Mayhem exclusive, including the uncensored thoughts & comments from former ECW World Champion, Jerry Lynn, along with former ECW World Tag Team Champion, Danny Doring, on the closure of the "extreme" chapter in professional wrestling & sports-entertainment.
