WWE House Show Results (7/31): Sydney, Australia

Report by Dann Lennard & F4WOnline.com …

I attended an entertaining house show at Sydney’s Acer Arena. A not-quite-capacity crowd were enthusiastic, but nowhere near as rabid as I’ve seen on other tours over the years. Maybe it’s not surprising considering the show was lacking in star power as both Undertaker and CM Punk weren’t there.

Match results:

1. Tag Titles: Hart Dynasty (w/- Natalya) b Straight Edge Society (Gallows & Joey Mercury w/- Serena) – good opening bout. Mercury looked pretty good.Afterwards, Kane stormed to the ring and beat up the Hart Dynasty and Mercury. He vowed to avenge his brother against Rey Mysterio in the main event.

2. MVP b Cody Rhodes. Slow, nothing match. Cody looks and works like a whitebread 70s wrestler.

3. Alberto Del Rio b Chavo Guerrero Jr. Del Rio won with an armbar submission. OK match. Crowd were into Chavo

4. Women’s Title: Layla (on her own) b Kelly Kelly. Layla is an awesome heel. Match sucked, but her gimmick is great. I don’t know whether this is a good or a bad thing in the WWE Universe, but Layla has plenty of back.

5. Big Show b Drew McIntyre. Crowd loved Show. He won with the KO punch.

6. Matt Hardy b Christian in the first match after intermission. A slow-building, long match. Both guys appeared to be having a lot of fun. Christian worked his ass off. Hardy looks out of shape – I mean, reaaally out of shape. He also looked pretty banged up after the bout. Still, this was the best match on the card.

7. IC Title: Dolph Ziggler b Kofi Kingston. Kofi was way over with the crowd. Dolph claimed this was his first IC title defense.

8. World title: Kane retained by pinning Jack Swagger in a three-way with Rey Mysterio. Afterwards, Rey did the 619 on Kane. Rey was a one-man show in this match – a pretty good title bout to finish the night.

Biggest pops of the evening: Rey, Kofi & Hardy
