Dreamer On Possible ECW Reunion House Shows, Tons More

The following is an excerpt from a new Tommy Dreamer interview from AOL Fanhouse:

Brian Fritz: When did you first get the idea that you wanted to put together a show like this?

Tommy Dreamer: I’ve actually been thinking about it for quite some time. After I left WWE, I traveled the indies and was able to talk to all of the fans that came out for those shows and basically they were telling me about how the original ECW affected their lives or something I did or one of the other guys. I felt there was a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths for how it ended. Just thinking about how all these people kept talking to me, I wanted to do something to say thank you to the fans that supporting us for so long. It was never about an invasion or us taking over or anything against WWE. It was all just to have closure for a lot of guys and say thanks to the people that supported us.

Did you ever have closure before? The original ECW ended years ago, then the WWE did the two “One Night Stand” shows before bringing back the brand. Was there a point where you did have closure and then something changed?

One hundred percent. I said it in my speech on air. I had it in 2005 when they brought it back. It didn’t pan out as much as I tried. And I didn’t want the fans to remember it as that because I think that the fans has a lot of high hopes for it just like a lot of the guys did. It didn’t turn out to be that way. So, this was a way to kind of give back in the sense of, not only for me, but for the guys. I look at it as your favorite rock and roll band KISS, that’s how I look at it. All the original members putting on the makeup one last time and going out there and doing it one last time. No politics, no anything, just going out there and saying thank you. And there will be no more reunion reunion tours or anything like that that a lot of bands like to do. This is it and anything I’m going to be totally behind like I was in 2005 and now I’m doing it here.

There was some talk that if the pay-per-view works this is something that TNA could do going forward on house shows. Is that an idea you’re open to or this is it, just the one night?

For me, it’s just going to be the one night. This was part of my plan as well to a) raise aware for TNA and I think I’ve done that. I think it’s created a hell of a buzz for the product and for the company and if it helps the guys that are on the show get a job maybe. If it proves to them that hey, they can still work and they still look good, I’d love that. But this is going to be the only show that I’m fully writing, putting together and this is it for me. I’ve always believed in stipulations. That why when I left WWE I didn’t say I was retiring. I said I was leaving ECW and that’s what I did.
