Superstars celebrate a U.S. Navy re-enlistment

NORFOLK, Va. – In front of his wife and parents, as well as WWE Superstars Kofi Kingston and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, Navy Corpsman HM3 Kevin Gooch re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy for three years.

Corpsman Gooch was recently re-enlisted by United States Marine Corps 1st Lieutenant Nathan Magel at the Norfolk Scope before a SmackDown event.

“I’m thrilled that Mr. Rhodes and Mr. Kingston are here, and I am thankful to WWE for allowing me to do this here today,” Corpsman Gooch told WWE.com.

Corpsman Gooch is stationed at Naval Station Norfolk, which is the world’s largest military station. He saw active combat in Iraq as part of a U.S. Marine Corps unit. (The USMC uses Navy medical personnel. Some U.S. Navy sailors, such as Corpsman Gooch, serve with the U.S. Marines.) 1st Lt. Magel was also recently in combat in Afghanistan.

Both Corpsman Gooch and 1st Lt. Magel have been lifelong WWE fans.

“I’ve loved WWE since I was a child. WWE furnished my apartment,” Corpsman Gooch said, which is wife, Crystal, affirmed. His parents, Jim and LeeAnn, also met the WWE Superstars at the ceremony.

1st Lt. Magel told WWE.com he’s been watching WWE for more than 20 years.

“I loved the way [The Undertaker] would take a beating and suddenly sit up,” 1st Lt. Magel said. “And he’s still doing it!”
