The following is an excerpt from an article on PostAndCourier.com:

Tom Cole doesn’t think much about professional wrestling these days.

His involvement in one of the industry’s most sordid stories two decades ago is a now but a distant memory. And he’d like to keep it that way.

A young ring attendant for WWE (then World Wrestling Federation) at the time, Cole hurled charges against the company that resulted in the resignation of three longtime employees, and helped fuel a sex scandal that became instant fodder for the tabloids.

The New York native went public in 1992 with claims that a WWE official had attempted to seduce him two years earlier when he was 19, that another had grabbed his buttocks, and that he had been sexually harassed at the age of 13 by a part-time ring announcer who allegedly targeted youngsters from broken homes and troubled backgrounds.

The case eventually was settled, and Cole moved on with his life.

But during Linda McMahon’s recent run for a U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut, which Cole supported, the two decade-old controversy resurfaced in some media circles.

Cole says he shouldn’t still have to defend himself. He feels that justice was served when Linda and her husband, wrestling impresario Vince McMahon, removed the officials from the company years ago.

Now at age 40, he says he understands why certain decisions were made then.

“I wanted the right thing to be done. I’m older now. Over the years I’ve begun to realize how things are done. They wanted to protect their company, but ultimately they did the right thing.”
