EXCLUSIVE: Backstage with MVP on WWE, Japan, Music & More

WrestleZone got a chance to speak up close and personal with MVP this weekend at the 15th Anniversary show for NorthEast Wrestling in Poughkeepsie, New York. I took several things away from the conversation.

First of all, MVP is very dedicated to professional wrestling.  That much was obvious. He is a student of the game, and is dedicated to becoming a top star. It’s obvious that drive to make it to the top was a key reason for his leaving WWE, and why that door remains very open for him. MVP had nothing bad to say about WWE or his experiences with the company. He seemed to shy away from talking on the record just yet ("when the time is right, I’ll tell my story in a meaningful way" he told me), and was appreciative of the opportunities he received from Vince McMahon and Talent Relations exec John Laurinaitis.

MVP is also quite enthused about his music career. He is working with a hot independent producer in Houston, and he speaks of his musical prospects with the same passion he does about his wrestling. His attitude was "when it’s as close to perfect as possible, we’ll release something." MVP was very specific in that he’s in no rush, and wants everything he’s involved in to be top quality.

The only question MVP avoided was the subject of wrestling in Japan. WrestleZone has confirmed MVP’s negotiations with at least one top Japanese company, where obviously he would be in line for a top push. When asked about his negotiations with Japan, MVP said "it would be premature for me to say anything about Japan at this moment."
