ROH News: Next Two World Title Challengers Announced

ROH World Champion Roderick Strong has proven himself as champion, retaining the title through four very difficult title bouts against four very different opponents. By hook or crook, Strong has maintained his position at the top of the ladder, and without a great deal of assistance from Truth Martini. The champion now heads into his 5th title defense, this one against the most unpredictable man on the ROH roster: “The Notorious 187” Homicide will challenge Roderick for the ROH World Title at the “9th Anniversary Show” live on iPPV (http://www.gofightlive.tv/Events/Fight/Wrestling/ROH__The_9th_Anniversary_Show/920). “The Notorious 187” has fought a long road back to the belt, going unpinned and undefeated in singles bouts since he returned at “Glory by Honor IX” and ruined Strong’s victory celebration. Homicide has put down Kevin Steen, The Necro Butcher, both Jay & Mark Briscoe, Claudio Castagnoli, and more en route to this title bout and could very well walk out of Chicago Ridge with the belt in his possession for the 2nd time. Either he, or Roderick Strong, will head to New York City for “Manhattan Mayhem IV” for the next defense of the ROH World Title. The question is who will be the man to step up to the plate in the Big Apple?

Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards, Jay Briscoe, and El Generico: those are the four men who have already battled ROH World Champion Roderick Strong in an attempt to wrest the title from his hands. All four men were unsuccessful in their initial quest, but all four men certainly proved themselves deserving of another shot at history. Daniels holds several non-title victories over the champion, most recently at “Champions vs. All-Stars” in Virginia in a bout the champ demanded; Davey Richards fought through a concussion and ruptured ear drum before succumbing to unconsciousness in their battle at “Final Battle 2010”; Jay Briscoe fought with the heart of a champion but was cut open during his title bout and the sheer amount of blood he spilt certainly played a factor in his ability to fight; as for El Generico, well Roderick flat out cheated to beat “The Generic Luchador”, using the belt as a weapon after being unable to keep Generico down.

There is also the other half of The American Wolves, Eddie Edwards, who secured himself a future World title opportunity by battling through a serious shoulder injury to win “Survival of the Fittest 2010” last October. Edwards is coming off a tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH in which he unsuccessfully challenged GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion Kotaro Suzuki for the title as well as faced the likes of Marufuji, Morishima, and Go Shiozaki among others. So which of these men will be one to get his shot in Manhattan??

It will be the former ROH World Tag Team & World TV Champion Eddie Edwards! March 19th, “Manhattan Mayhem IV” with a special start time of 4PM; Eddie Edwards will take on the winner of Strong/Homicide for the ROH World Title! But that’s not all. ROH officials have also determined who will challenge for the ROH World Title on April 1st when we debut in Atlanta, GA with the last man who pinned the current ROH World Champion Roderick Strong, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels! Daniels has been in pursuit of the ROH World Title for quite a long time. Will 4/1 finally mark the “Fallen Angel’s” ascension to the top of ROH? Who will Eddie Edwards face in Manhattan? Who will Christopher Daniels face in Atlanta? These are questions still to be answered as ROH continues its tour across the country. The ROH World Title picture is certainly heating up!
