Deonna Purrazzo Excited To Face Melina At ‘Empowerrr,’ But The Mission Remains The Same

Deonna Purrazzo is looking forward to sharing the ring with a wrestling legend in Melina, but that doesn’t mean she’s lost her focus as champion.

Deonna Purrazzo recently spoke with WrestleZone about facing Melina at NWA Empowerrr this weekend. Purrazzo talked about how Melina is a trailblazer in her own right but said despite all of her accolades, it still doesn’t excuse her trying to upstage “The Virtuosa.”

“It’s exciting,” Purrazzo said. “Especially having someone like Melina, who’s been working with NWA quite a bit. That’s someone I grew up watching, I was inspired by [her]. Ahead of her time as far as wrestling before women’s wrestling was really a thing in WWE. So, it’s definitely exciting that I’m going to be able to have this match with her but the bigger gripe here is that my moments are squashed and I just don’t really appreciate it. At the end of the day, the mission is the same, I have to defend and retain my IMPACT Knockouts Championship, so Melina is just one more legend that I’m going to put on the shelf in the ‘Age Of The Virtuosa.’”

Asked about how she might scout her opponent heading into Empowerrr, Purrazzo said she hasn’t watched any specific matches on tape yet, but does know Melina has been dealing with a knee injury that might be a potential target to focus on.

“There is some stuff medically that I know about Melina, her knee isn’t as great as it once was. So, I definitely have some tricks up my sleeve,” Purrazzo said, “and once I get the chance to study I will be pinpointing for sure.”

NWA Empowerrr will take place on Saturday, August 28 in St. Louis. Fans can order the event on FITE.
