The Champ Is Here! Well, kinda.

John Cena spoke with The Toronto Sun in a phone interview about his impending return to WWE, starting with the Dec. 26 show at Madison Square Garden. The 16-time World Champion expressed that his return will strictly be on the live events as he won’t be showing his face on WWE television any time soon:

“None of these shows are televised. I’m literally just doing it because I want to get back to a place I feel most comfortable and to working with people I can call my family. And I want to have some fun.”

Cena has been very sporadic with his televised appearances, with his most recent was at WWE Super ShowDown. His schedule has been packed with new film opportunities, with his most recent being Bumblebee. With a stacked schedule going into 2019, it might be harder for Cena to work in a regular capacity with the company he calls home.

“I know that my return is going to come with some mixed opinions — especially because I’ve been away and I’ve got a stupid haircut now — but that’s what’s great about the WWE audience. They are fanatical. They are obsessive. They are loud as hell and it’s going to be a fun experience. I’m glad I can come back.”

Cena will be working a month-long gap for various live events between the Madison Square Garden show to mid-January, where he’ll start filming for his latest project.
