YouTube was down across the globe for over an hour on October 16, and the outage left the internet confused. Where would the world go for their entertainment? Well, it turns out the answer was Pornhub. The popular porn streaming site saw a 21% overall increase in traffic during the outage, which means millions of additional viewers.
So, sure a lot of people were enjoying some adult entertainment but how does it relate to WWE? Well, Pornhub (this blog is safe for work believe it or not) released a list of search terms that skyrocketed in popularity during the YouTube outage and “WWE” was right up there with the highest ones. Other than “ASMR,” “YouTube,” “Roleplay,” and “Stormy Daniels,” “WWE” wound up being the term that had the fifth largest increase upon regular search popularity during the outage. It saw an increase of 144%, which is quite impressive.
I thought maybe they just wanted to catch up on some classic Shawn Michaels matches, but after checking the search results for “WWE,” I saw no signs of the “Heartbreak Kid.” Strange!
