Rich Swann Talks Favorite Opponents, Black Excellence, and Weight Classes

Don’t Try This At Home Radio just posted a great interview with former WWE Cruiserweight Champion and current Impact Wrestling star Rich Swann. The interview is a great watch and includes him talking about the iconic “Black Excellence” photo he took as Cruiserweight Champion (which he calls a “crazy moment” that he never thought would blow up like it did) among other topics.

Transcription by Tyler Treese, WrestleZone.com Senior Editor.

Favorite opponents:

It varies. Right now, I’d say Neville for one, and I got to give it to Teddy Hart. He’s one of the most electric guys. You can’t stop him no matter what anyone says about him.

If there should be weight classes:

I know people don’t want to compare UFC to professional wrestling, but there are people who are featherweights that are selling pay-per-views. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a branded division like that. What makes our business so unique is that if a cruiserweight and a heavyweight get into the ring, styles like Rey Mysterio, Jericho, Guventud, Eddie, are able to jump from that label from cruiserweight into a heavyweight. It’s [a good starting platform].

What black wrestlers he think will be the next heavyweight champions on a worldwide level:

We already got Jay Lethal right now. Ring of Honor isn’t an independent promotion. In WWE, maybe someone like Big E or Kofi would be the best. Not only that, Bobby Lashley is the dude. On Impact, Moose.
