New WWE Tag Team Champions
In a Sin City Street Fight, The New Day claimed the Smackdown Tag Team Championships once again. This match was the best of the night, as it featured a great amount of physicality and creativity. From chair maneuvers to Kendo Sticks and Big E looking at his best ever, The New Day were able to end the night of The Uso’s with tossing Jey off the top rope and through a table, followed by the Midnight Hour onto Jimmy to pick up the win. Once again, two of the best tag teams in this decade put on another excellent match and you can always count on these guys to entertain.
The Uso’s are at the top of their game, especially with adding spot-on kicks to their offense to really knock the bigger men down to size. They are so in sync with one another that each move and each defensive reaction seems perfect. This works well with a team that just continues to be important and interesting. Do you realize how difficult it is for a team like The New Day to continue to be “the” tag team in WWE after so much success and so many challengers? I credit them for doing something that not many tag teams have been able to do over this long of a span. It is amazing to me how great these teams work together and keep things fresh, even if this is like the 10th or so match against one another in the past 1-2 years. Their quick break from Smackdown Live and RAW let The Uso’s reboot and come back as the best heel tag team in the company.
Natalya defeated Naomi
The third championship match was the weakest of the three, but still pretty decent. Natalya fended off the offensive electricity that Naomi provided and made her tap out to the Sharpshooter as Carmella looked on. As this match was booked, it was more about showcasing the offense of Naomi than making Natalya look like a dominant champion. As I said last week, Las Vegas would’ve been the perfect opportunity for Carmella to cash in, but WWE brought her and Ellsworth out to commentary.
When I saw this, I knew that she would not cash in. I felt like if Carmella walked out as champion, this would’ve been so much sweeter and more impactful. This night felt like a PPV and during the match I wanted it to happen. Seeing everything else that happened, it might be the best choice to NOT have her cash-in and be forgotten in a night that would soon be EXTREMELY memorable.
