Isenberg Reacts: WWE Smackdown “Where Are The Mid Card Contenders At?

Seth Rollins vs. Jey Uso

wwe-smackdown-social-6.jpg

Smackdown starts off with Seth Rollins in action against Jey Uso. Surprisingly, WWE gave these guys a lot of time to work in the ring, with Jey hitting plenty of his offense. Rollins has to worry about Dean Ambrose on the outside, which allows Jey for a superkick and then a Samoan Drop soon after. He would get a few two counts and then Seth took over. He hit the powerbomb into the corner and then ends his night with a Pedigree.

I am not hating the idea of The Uso’s fighting for their cousin. It gives Roman Reigns an invisible mention on the show, making sure that fans know he is still in the mix. It also keeps Seth fresh, giving him new opponents to work with in the ring. Jey is a talented performer and it is unfortunate that he has hit his ceiling in the company. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the action, the pace and the speed from these guys. Consistency is key in ANY Seth Rollins match.

A Surprising Win

Zack Ryder and Sheamus did battle on Smackdown, with Zack Ryder getting the clean win. Yes, Ryder over Sheamus tonight as he finishes him off with an elbow drop from the top rope. He makes it clear that he wants Rusev for the United States Championship.

Zack Ryder will always be a fan favorite because of his story. He has a great passion for the WWE, overcame cancer and continues to improve years later from when he was at the peak of his career. With Rusev, it is all about him crushing the competition until someone “great” comes along. Who is that going to be? I have not a clue, but I do think his short stint with Titus did not do much for me in terms of connecting with the crowd. Ryder has that missing connection and can really utilize the next few weeks and month to let Rusev continue his dominance. Ryder is no longer booked as the vast underdog, which is refreshing.
