Title This: WWE Smackdown Reaction “Why Nostalgia Needs To Be Featured on Friday Nights”

Nostalgia on Smackdown

smackdown reactionThe night begins with Stephanie McMahon talking about the 15th anniversary of Smackdown. She discusses The Rock and then out comes John Laurinaitis and Teddy Long. They make a Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy match for later tonight.

We see The Rock and Triple H backstage talking to one another about the past, which ends up getting heated. I really enjoyed the dry humor and the realistic jabs at one another. I would not be against Triple H vs. The Rock at WrestleMania, but I do not see it happening. The only good storyline it could be would be if nobody was able to beat The Authority and The Rock comes back to stop them. Think of the great promos and think of the references and backstage skits they could do that would be very entertaining.

WWE Smackdown lacks many things and it lacks nostalgia. They cannot overuse it, but WWE needs to invest more time and more interest in their storylines on Friday nights. If they brought back some older guys to make appearances and have The Cutting Edge, Pipers Pit or The Peep Show instead of MizTV, it would definitely bring a few more eyes to the show. Nonetheless, it was fun to see Rock and Triple H jaw at one another for five minutes.

Rusev defeated Dolph Ziggler

Rusev and Ziggler have a pretty entertaining match. Rusev hits a fallaway slam and gets a two count. Rusev locks in a headlock and Ziggler fights out of it. He hits a dropkick and then follows up with a DDT. Rusev counters Dolph and Ziggler returns the favor with a Fameasser. Dolph tries for a superkick, but Rusev blocks it. He hits a thrust kick and then makes him tap out to The Accolade.

I really enjoyed the flow of the match and the chemistry. Since it was a non-title match and Rusev was involved, you knew who was going to win. I love Dolph Ziggler and really think this match helps him in the long run. He gave Rusev a test and WWE let Ziggler get plenty of offense in. The size difference was obvious, but I think we are getting to see how athletic a big man like Rusev really is. The speed of his opponent did not stop him from showcasing more of his powerful moves.
