Stars in Progress: Mark Henry Up, Brock Lesnar & John Cena Down, Dean Ambrose Returns; Is Bray Wyatt Dead in the Water?

STEP DOWN: John Cena, Brock Lesnar

john cenaI’ve already described at length my frustrations with the main event at Night of Champions. I cannot praise Cena and Brock Lesnar enough for the show they put on for the 14 minutes they were given. I could have watched another 20 minutes of that excellent, edge-of-your-seat drama, with ease. The way the match ended has made me totally apathetic to everyone involved. They squandered the momentum that Cena and Lesnar worked hard to build up. They’ll have to work twice as hard to build back to that level next time, just to convince the fans to invest in yet another match that might end via bullshit.

STEP UP: Dean Ambrose

Somehow, Ambrose manages to not look dwarfed standing next to John Cena. In fact, with very little happening on Raw or Smackdown that interests me – I barely watched anything from this week’s show – his return was the one thing I payed attention to. He carried another great segment on Main Event with The Miz and Damien Sandow. Everything Ambrose does turns to gold. He reminds me of Mick Foley – consistently different, and way more interesting than most competitors on the roster during his era.
