STEP UP: The Legacy of Brock Lesnar

Undertaker vs Brock LesnarThere’s something magical about Brock Lesnar. He has that “IT” factor that thousands of wrestlers, actors, fighters, entertainers spend their lives trying to emulate. He was already perceived as the real deal in pro wrestling, but ventured outside the bubble to prove that legitimacy in a real cage fighting atmosphere, then came back to put it all together. He’s quickly approaching a territory that very few of the elite have ever reached. To be considered one of the biggest names of all time, in the two biggest companies in two giant industries, puts him in a league with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson…and that’s about it.

People are now asking, “who can beat Brock Lesnar? Who’s going to beat this guy now that’s got the title?” Ask yourself – when was the last time ANY wrestling fan was asking questions like that? When John Cena holds the belt, we’re all just waiting for him to drop it two or three months later. I like Daniel Bryan, but he’s always in a fight for his life; always the underdog in every situation. All the great of the past decade – Triple H, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Batista, Randy Orton, Edge – had, or are having Hall of Famer careers, but it was always a matter of when, not if, they could be beaten.

Brock Lesnar conquered the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania; he beat the one man/myth/icon that could not be beaten. Not only did he beat John Cena, but he did so in a fashion that you just can’t rebound from. He took a PPV main event and made it look like a C-show squash match. You can say what you will about part-timers, and the title not being defended at every PPV, or the champion on every show, but Lesnar has brought buzz and discussion to the World Championship. So let me ask you a question that hasn’t been asked in a very long time, since the days when another game-changing brute steamrolled his way through the wrestling world… Who’s next?
