Wrestlezone’s Top Ten: Triple H Matches at WrestleMania

#10

WrestleMania 2000

Triple H def. The Rock / Mick Foley / Big Show

This match deserves to be mentioned on my list, but I cannot in any sane, logical universe, afford it any higher of a position. Somebody tell me what the central story in this one was, and you may have solved the Pandora's Box of pro wrestling angles.

The back drop to this match was the ongoing war between the McMahon family. So naturally, each of them – yes, including Linda – got in the corner of a Superstar and fought it out for the WWF Championship. Not so crazy on paper, right?

Add to that Mick Foley, who had been placed in the match by Linda McMahon. His win would have actually vacated the title – another stipulation that made the match all the more ridiculous. But then you have the potential alliance between the Rock & Sock Connection, most of the McMahon's causing interference at some point, the double-cross by Vince McMahon and a post-match assault from The Rock on everyone. So who won? Triple H… I think.

Obviously Triple H won, but the point is that no single agenda was really furthered in this nearly 40 minute match. it is the single most convoluted match in WrestleMania history. You cannot tell four different stories at one time, and expect anybody to come away looking good. By the end of the night, nobody knew which McMahon was aligned with another, and Foley's farewell was completely overshadowed by miles and miles of swerves.
