Mt. Killamanjaro: TNA Impact Wrestling & Destination X Review – All Hail Sabin, the Zach Gowen of World Champions

TNA Impact Wrestling

Destination X Live Special

7/18/13 – Louisville, KY

A video package for Bully Ray and Chris Sabin kicks off the show, before Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash welcome us to Destination X. Taz is missing… Sabin will be "cashing in" to challenge for the world title tonight, and the major story is whether Sting's new Main Event Mafia can get the job done long enough for Sabin to capitalize on his opportunity.

Aces & Eights music hits; Bully Ray out to get the show started. He hypes the world title match, makes it clear Sabin doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, and calls down his wife. Out comes Brooke, who was she's "moving on" from the whole situation. Things get heated, which leads to none other than Hulk Hogan coming down. He says the entire thing between Bully and their family is over; the world champion thinks differently. Kurt Angle's up on the tron, with the Main Event Mafia, and tonight we're gonna find out what happens when they collide with the Aces & Eights.

KILLAM: Very hot first segment. They are saving Sabin for that big pop later on. Hogan's reaction always blows me away. When I saw Impact last month in Chicago, he and Brooke were two of the most over people throughout the night. That's right, Brooke too. They got everything that needed to be said taken care of in one, ten minute segment. Time for some action!

Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries

Rating: ***1/2

This is a Bound for Glory series match, but it's also a rematch from last year's huge Destination X world title main event, where Aries cashed in to win. It's also the first singles match between these two since they became a tag team. Roode still hasn't won a match yet; Aries has a single victory. Austin Aries wins via Brainbuster.

After the match, Roode goes crazy and stars breaking down the announcer's area, chasing Jeremey Borash and destroying all of his stuff.

KILLAM: Roode really "needed" to win this match, as thus far he has no points in the BFG series. That being said, with Sabin taking on Bully tonight, they also really needed last year's Destination X success story to look…well, successful. A good match, for what these guys are capable of doing on television. TNA really should have petitioned Spike TV for a special commercial-free episode of Impact.
