A British Point of View: Potential Payback

WWE PaybackJust like Mick Foley! Just when you thought I was gone, I’m back! My life has been a little hectic recently to say the least as I have started a new job. As things are now settling I’m hoping to be able to write more of these for you all in the future!

To be honest, Wrestling hasn’t exactly made my size 11 socks fly across the room lately but I have a confession…

I watched TNA Slammiversary!

DON’T CLICK ON ANOTHER PAGE!

All joking aside, I must say that I enjoyed the event. Maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I forced myself to watch TNA but everything seemed fairly logical and the booking didn’t seem completely stupid for a change. Then there was the ‘Last Knockout Standing’ match. I hope John Cena and Ryback was watching Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim as they demonstrated how to do a last ‘person’ standing match! It was one of the best women’s wrestling matches I’ve seen in a very long time!

As for WWE, nothing much has changed. The Shield are still strong, Daniel Bryan is awesome, Cesaro is treading water and John Cena is still frustrating.

RAW this week started with the rematch of Triple H taking on Curtis Axel which ended up being quite bizarre as we had to watch Vince have numerous entrances to cost Triple H the match. Did anyone notice how close Vince came to nearly killing Justin Roberts with the ring bell when he swung it around?

Another comical moment for me was when Kane was trying to separate Bryan and Orton in the back, only to have his 12 year old inner child take over as his voice broke with strain!

Curtis Axel has been added to the Intercontinental Championship match for this Sunday at Payback. This means that surely he must walk out of the PPV as the new champion? It would seem strange to give him ‘big’ wins over Cena, Jericho and Triple H only to lose his first PPV match. I do like the look of Axel, I don’t mind the name although Joe Hennig would have been fine as well. His music has quickly grown on me and if he is given enough time to improve his confidence on the mic whilst working with Paul Heyman then I can see bright things in the future for this young superstar.

When Vince was with Stephanie and Triple H in the back I couldn’t help but find things being said a little contradictory. Vince claimed to have stopped Triple H’s matches for his health but then also went on to say that business always comes before personal matters. Surely, in this situation having Triple H wrestle on RAW would have been better for business thus been more important than protecting his son-in-law who had already been medically cleared to wrestle? Anyway, I’m splitting hairs.

Would someone PLEASE have a word with Big E. Langston about his ring attire!? I had to question WWE’s PG rating and the cameraman’s sexual preference when I had to watch a close up of his butt cheeks as he was being pinned by Jericho on RAW! Put some pants on it Langston!

Antonio Cesaro got a win on RAW, shame it was against Sin Cara who’s only clean segment so far in WWE has been with a trampoline when he’s entered the ring.

Daniel Bryan has continued to go from strength to strength. After his World Title loss and cult like following it seems like WWE held him back a little to prove that he is capable of delivering more on the mic to compliment his in ring skills. Well Bryan has done that and more, and I think he will reap the benefits of this soon. Hopefully WWE will allow him to stay babyface as he has such a natural connection to the crowd which in the current roster is so difficult to come across.

Damien Sandow has been excellent on SmackDown recently and until this Monday I would have said that the pre-show match between Sheamus and Sandow has had an even better build than Ryback and Cena for the Title. It’s a shame that Sheamus has become just as generic as Cena has and as hard as Sandow has worked recently, I still don’t see anything other than a Sheamus win this Sunday.

Another comical note is how Sandow keeps yelling “SILENCE!” to the crowd. Every time he has done this so far I keep expecting him to follow it up with an Achmed ‘The Dead Terrorist’ like “I’LL KEEL YOU!”

It’s nice to see that Alex Riley is still with the WWE because the only time we see him on RAW or SmackDown is whenever he is a lumberjack.

The show closed with the McMahon’s and Triple H pointlessly sorting out their issues and Cena and Ryback having an altercation which nobody really cared about.

This Sunday has the potential to create some good matches which should be entertaining but as far as anything groundbreaking this PPV is definitely your filler until we start the road to SummerSlam.

Here’s the winners I see coming out of Sunday: Sheamus, AJ Lee, Dean Ambrose, Curtis Axel, The Shield, Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler and John Cena.

The one you may be surprised in reading there might be Chris Jericho. I believe that if WWE want to go the Brock Lesnar VS CM Punk route then they have to make Heyman turn on Punk this Sunday. That would bring Punk back to the babyface and give some kind of way to go in a new direction with these guys. If Punk leaves the PPV with a bit more direction and is a clear babyface again then I think this will kick start everyone’s interest in to the summer. Potentially, it’s all there for the taking.

Do you think it’s time to bring Punk back as a face? Do you think Curtis Axel should be IC Champion? Do you think Ryback deserves his first PPV win? And does anything to do with Vince and Triple H actually interest you? Let me know below, email me at beansontoastuk@msn.com or get in touch via Twitter @BeansOnToastUK.
