Wrestlezone’s Top 10: Breakthrough Stars of 2012

Number 8: Zema Ion

Zema Ion

As Austin Aries left the X-Division Championship picture, there was an opening for the next best champion. Many thought that the title would go to an established superstar, possibly Samoa Joe or Christopher Daniels. Instead, TNA took a chance on some young guys, and they cashed in with Zema Ion. Ion is a guy who started in the indy scene for a handful of years, worked his butt off, and it paid off. His in ring skills are fantastic, but it is all about his personality that has continued to carry him higher and higher. X-Division wrestling was built for Ion, and his championship reign was impressive. He continues to work with top talent, even though it looks like he is going through a down period. Nonetheless, 2012 was very kind with Zema Ion, and he took every opportunity and broke through as one of the best young stars TNA could build around for the long haul.
