WZ Special Feature: The Giants of Wrestling – Past and Present

Big Show

Big Show

The Big Show, Paul Wight, made his debut in WCW in 1995 at Halloween Havoc, defeating Hulk Hogan. From the very beginning, The Giant (his name in WCW) was someone that the audience could connect with. His size of 7’1″ and over 400 pounds was a sight to see. Billed as the son of Andre The Giant, he would take over WCW from the very beginning. He soon would turn and become a member of the NWO. After WCW, he signed a ten year deal with the WWE in 1999. After this contract was signed, he debuted at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and tried to help Vince McMahon beat Stone Cold in a Steel Cage match.

The debut in both companies show you how important he was, and still is. He is a multiple time world champion for both companies combined. He also is a tag team champion with multiple partners, as well as Intercontinental and United States Champion, Hardcore Champion. He is a Grand Slam Champion with the WWE.

Big Show is a wrestling giant because he has been the most successful and most dominant giant in this sport for the longest time. With over 17 years combined, Paul Wight has continued to stay healthy, for the most part, remain at the main event picture multiple times, and has been able to adapt from the Attitude Era to PG without missing a beat. When he retires, people will always remember how long he was able to stay successful, how many character changes he overcame, and how much he really loved the business.
