What’s Bothering Me: Big Show, Old School Fans, Rob Van Dam

Big Show1. Big Show, Again

I'm very aware that wrestling often recycles stars, programs, and ideas. They really don't have a choice. It's nearly impossible to create something completely original or unique.

I do think that there's a right and a wrong way to do it, however, and WWE completely missed the mark with Big Show. That should come as no surprise though — they always do.

During Raw last week, I asked my followers on Twitter why we're supposed to take Big Show serious as a legit challenger to the WHC. Most agreed with me that we can't. However, a lot more people than I care to mention (for fear it would reflect poorly on me) brought up his extreme size and physical stature as a reason we should ALWAYS take him serious.

Um, are we six years old? Did we forget that wrestling is scripted?

I asked my nephew (he's 10) the other day who he thought would win between Sheamus and Big Show. He said "Sheamus". I asked him why he thought that. "Because Big Show ALWAYS loses," he responded.

Even my PG nephew gets it.

Want proof that re-using a guy CAN actually work? Take Mark Henry, for example. THE example. After a decade and a half of being known as the World's Largest Failure (my words), he became relevant again. It took actual creativity on WWE's part and it took him going to a special place or something to deliver it so well. But it all happened, and it worked.

I don't hate Big Show. I even believe he's capable of more — still, today. But WWE refuses to allow it. And until they do, I stand by my opinion that we simply can't take him serious in a World Heavyweight Championship match.

IF he wins at Hell in a Cell, and I don't think he will, it's simply to set up Dolph cashing in MITB and winning (to play off of Daniel Bryan's win over Big Show late last year). Or, it's a joke.

One option is bad for the fans, both are bad for Show — take your pick.
