Lesnar: Opportunity Wasted; So, You Wanna Be A Heel?

Brock LesnarLesnar: Opportunity Wasted

WWE is so scared that Brock Lesnar is going to leave that now there’s no point in him staying. Witness Triple H’s promo setting up a future match with Brock. Trips was no-selling his "broken" arm. His general attitude was, “If you want to fight, fine. If you don’t, that’s OK, too.”

GREAT CHRIST, TALK ABOUT FIRE AND BRIMSTONE! WHERE DO I GETTICKETS TO SEE THAT?

If Trips doesn’t care, why should the marks care? Lesnar’s limited dates make it look like he doesn’t even care enough to be there. Heyman’s not there. Trips might as well feud with a unicorn. ZZZZZzzzzz…

WWE has blown it with Lesnar. His return should have been huge. But they had to get that loss to Cena on video. They had to turn Lesnar into just another fake wrestler. Their paranoia about Lesnar being unmanageable or walking out has overwhelmed whatever value signing him might have had.

True, their concerns about Lesnar were/are justified. But bringing him back entailed weighing risk against reward. Can’t split the difference. Don’t forget, Lesnar takes zero pride in this particular work. It’s a paycheck, period. If you want quality control, Brock won’t provide it.

WWE is at the point where Impact just might have a better on-air/in-ring product. Slammiversary was good, Impact’s TV has been decent, Bobby Roode becomes a more credible world champ every day, and Brooke Tessmacher got new implants. What’s not to like?

(BTW, if Brooke Adams actually works at a Hooters to maintain eligibility for Hooters swimsuit pageants, say when and where, and I’ll show up. Stalking is just a word the police made up. Good wings, too.)

WWE’s “audience of one” problem manifests itself in many ways, but humor is one of the most frequent. Ricardo Rodriguez in a Justin Bieber T-shirt or Alberto Del Rio undershorts ISN’T FUNNY. Michael Cole stripped to his underwear ISN’T FUNNY. A little person imitating Jim Ross ISN’T FUNNY. Vince McMahon imitating Ross ISN’T FUNNY. John Cena doing a Star Wars promo ISN’T FUNNY.

So much “humor” on WWE TV isn’t funny to anyone but McMahon. He has a lowbrow, bathroom sense of humor that may get guffaws from the lowest common denominator (like McMahon himself), but WWE already has a stranglehold on the lowest common denominator.

Subtlety and legitimate cleverness ISN’T ILLEGAL. The AJ love triangle has legit subtlety, moments of true humor and actual intrigue. How’d that get on TV?

So, who’s gonna get AJ? I’m betting Bryan. McMahon has such a low opinion of women, he’s going to put the abused woman right back in the arms of her abuser because deep down, she likes it.
