Mt. Killamanjaro: Slammiversary Preview – Ten Years of TNA

TNA Slammiversary Preview — Mount Killamanjaro — @MikeKillam

Ten years of TNA Wrestling… Jesus, has it really been that long? It's hard to believe the little guy is still chuggin' away, despite all the negative press and general IWC hate. The house that Jeff Jarrett built, now the house that Bobby Roode holds hostage; I'm actually quite proud of this monumental achievement for Jarrett, Dixie Carter and all the boys in the back over the past decade that helped it along. There are a lot of people out there — I used to be one of them — that would love nothing more than to see TNA fail. They've had a lot of bumps and bruises, but I honestly don't see them going away any time soon (and of course, now that I've said that, Dixie will announce the sale of TNA to Vince McMahon tonight on PPV…).

Now that all the pandering is out of the way, I'd like to ask a rather obvious question: if this PPV is so important to the legacy of TNA and Impact Wrestling, why does the card look like any other random TNA event? Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying a lot of the stories being told and the top-notch wrestling we usually see from the Impact product, but where's the sense of importance? Where's the blockbuster returns or celebrity announcements that you would think accompany an event of this magnitude? Why are there matches like this:

Hernandez vs. Kid Kash

When I saw this match on Wrestlezone's final card piece for Slammiversary, I immediately went to TNA's website to confirm. Admittedly, I also checked the roster page to see if either of these two still had a job with the company! I'd be surprised if they didn't run this as some sort of dark match; there's no place for two guys who haven't been seen in months on a 10th Anniversary PPV card. Especially one that already has 8 other matches!

Prediction: Hernandez? Certainly not the paying customers…
