What’s Bothering Me: Owen/Pillman, Punk vs Rhodes, Santino

I’ll be hosting “VOW Reaction” tonight, immediately following Monday Night Raw, and hope you can come check it out. It’s a fun, interactive show and I’m always looking for new, intelligent listeners to call in, join the chat room, tweet me questions/comments, etc. Tonight, I’ll be joined by Jordan Coulson, long-time wrestling fan and marketing director of Vegas Fuel energy drink, a sponsor of the show. Visit WZ or VOWLive.com tonight after Raw to tune in live!

#3. Remembering Wrestlers That Have Passed

It bums me out when a wrestler’s birthday or anniversary of their death rolls around. It’s healthy to look back on their careers, reminisce, and tell stories of how they touched or affected your lives, but it’s just f’n sad, too.

Check out the second part of Chair Shot Reality this week. Mark Madden’s segment looked back at Brian Pillman, a personal friend of Mark’s. It was inspired and is likely to be the only positive contribution by Mark to this site this month, so take advantage of it!

I remember Brian Pillman well. I was young, so it was easy for me to connect with the wrestlers I watched every week. Then, when you have someone as believable as Pillman at what he did, in character, it made it that much more compelling.

Pillman bought into his gimmick, heart and soul. He was a loose cannon in every sense of the phrase, and he had much more to offer the wrestling business.

Owen Hart was one of the most underrated superstars of his time. He’s given the respect he deserves now, but he was overshadowed by Bret for a very long time. And some in the business have put him over as the better all-around entertainer AND wrestler of the two. I won’t go that far – there’s no need to, in my opinion – but Owen was incredible.

“What if?” is a bothersome game to play and there are many more examples than the two I mentioned. May they all rest in peace and our memories of them live on forever.
