Mt. Killamanjaro: Over the Limit Preview & Predictions

John Cena vs John Laurinaitis

-This is a normal singles match

-There will not be a special referee

-If any Superstar interferes, they will be “terminated”

-If John “Clown Shoes” Laurinaitis loses, he will be “terminated”

John LaurinaitisIs this match actually happening in the likely main event of a PPV? Yes, and it’s awesome! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the work Laurinaitis and WWE Creative have put into his character over the past few months is unbelievably good. Seriously, I don’t believe it. The first step was in turning Eve and placing her at Big Johnny’s powerful right hand. It enables him to be out of the picture more often, so that when we do see him we can just plain ole’ hate him for being terrible, not because he’s terrible AND he’s taking up too much screen time. Eve is also a really natural heel presence in a managerial role, and I’ve been impressed with her work. Every slight against Teddy Long, every slap in the face of a talent, and especially the controversy with Big Show has cemented Laurinaitis as a legitimate heel General Manager.

Here’s the question…is WWE going to keep running with this. My gut tells me “yes”. The Laurinaitis card is far from being over-played in my opinion, especially now that he’s finally coming along as a real talent and asset to the product. My worry was that WWE has used Cena to “take care of” a lot of loose ends and effectively end roles in the past (read: Nexus). But they have so many “outs” here to keep this going. The most obvious one is that Big Show will interfere, because we know he’s not actually fired, and turn heel to keep his job. Other situations include the recently “unemployed” Brock Lesnar, a returning Batista and a few other left-field predictions. The safe money is on Big Show, and Johnny having an “Ace” — pun very much intended — up his sleeve in the form of a 7-foot-tall, 500 pound giant.

Prediction: John Laurinaitis wins

This PPV is going to be a huge build for the coming summer months. Out of the World Title match we could see our big, re-occuring summer feud in Sheamus/Orton. Out of the WWE Title match we could see a money feud blossom, or not. Even in the tag team match, there’s a chance Ziggler could break out and start that long-awaited singles run. I don’t feel like much of anything is coming to an end tonight. In fact, I think we’re going to see the beginning to a lot of good summer programming for the WWE.
