What’s Bothering Me? (In Professional Wrestling)

#1. Enough Michael Cole Already!

I am a fan of Michael Cole. I respect him and his abilities. And when he's not being pushed more than half of the WWE roster each and every week, he's fully capable of being the lead commentator of the company.

Michael ColeMy opinion of Michael Cole's announcing abilities is NOT the debatable issue this week, so please save your arguments on that for another time if at all possible. Whether or not you or I believe Michael Cole is good at his job is irrelevant. Jim Ross – who I'm sure no one disagrees is one of the best of all time – is not doing good at his job right now either.

They don't have a chance to be good.

Cole's heel persona isn't what bothers me. He can be quite witty at times. And having a heel commentator can help put wrestlers and stories over in a different way than a straight-shooting or babyface commentator can do. It's also unique that he's the "play-by-play" guy, rather than the color man, and I think it adds an interesting dynamic when done correctly.

The issue is featuring Michael Cole and his drama (with Jim Ross, no less) more prominently than 75% of the other stories going on each week. How does it better your product? Does it sell pay per views? Are people tuning in on Monday nights to see what happens with "that"? What's the endgame?

Maybe a few more disgusting Twitter trends is all…
