The Punk/Nash/Triple H story has been an absolute mess from day one. Kevin Nash’s momentum coming out of SummerSlam has slowed to a complete halt, the resolve in the “who sent the text” mystery was a huge disappointment, and the match that took place last night between Hunter and Punk was 3-6 months too early. We’ll never know the true reasons why this angle got out of hand so quickly, but the fact remains that it did. Now, it’s time for WWE to reel it back in and try and make some sense of it all. Last night was the first step.
With rumors of a Vince McMahon return, the options are wide open. Vince could start a new group to try and sabotage Triple H’s plans that will ultimately allow Vince to regain control of the company. Truth and Miz are obvious candidates for the group. Nash would make sense. Punk would need to find a way into the group somehow as well, in my opinion. It doesn’t necessarily mean he has to revert back to a full-fledged heel, but if his goal is to dethrone Hunter as COO, it could make sense. Heading into Survivor Series, a Vince McMahon team of Punk/Nash/Miz/Truth vs Cena/Rock/Hunter/??? could be interesting.
This is me throwing spaghetti strings against the wall, but I won’t be surprised if I’m on the right track. The pieces could be moved around and the specifics might change, but Vince’s return to television shifts the focus. You might not like the idea of Vince returning so soon, but I’m afraid it might be the only way for WWE to explain at least “most” of the recent craziness that’s taken place.
Look at this way, if nothing else: Vince back on tv could (and should) mean Johnny Ace won’t be for much longer. Here’s hoping anyway. That guy creeps me out!
I wouldn’t encourage you to run and watch a replay of last night’s “Night of Champions” pay per view, but I enjoyed it for the most part. If you are going to catch a replay, be sure to pay attention to the announcing. It was par for the course with Booker T on hand. He had some classics last night and believe or not, Michael Cole didn’t say a word towards the end. I’m not sure why, but as a refreshing as it was, I started missing him greatly when I was left with Booker T talking “more” as a result of Cole’s absence.
