Vince Gets a Little "Kroenke" on ESPN

Vince McMahon had a golden opportunity Monday night to explain, professionally, why he feels Denver Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke is a bad business man. So what did he do instead? He challenged him to a steel cage match. How relieved must Coach have felt knowing he was representing ESPN and not WWE?

This is exactly why I have always admired Vince McMahon as a business man. He seizes an opportunity to exploit what might otherwise have been considered a minuscule situation and parlays it into offers from both MSG and The Staples Center to run Raw this Monday night. You can call McMahon out of touch where the actual wrestling product is concerned, you can even call him out of touch with reality, but his reality is firmly grounded in business, and he made a very acute, precise business move when he "called out" Kroenke on a widely regarded platform such as ESPN.

The obvious counter argument here is that Vince has just further alienated WWE from mainstream sports media outlets by almost turning this situation into a work by cutting a "promo" on Kroenke as it seems, but I honestly think Vince just doesn’t care anymore. He’s self-aware. Meaning that he knows by now, better than anyone, how the general public views him, and he especially knows that the internet wrestling community is aware of his erratic behavior, so I think he’s playing into that; but with great effect.

If Vince is given any chance to expose the business to sports fans, or any type of mainstream media, he will and should take the opportunity to exploit that instance.
