The Raw “Sale”, Jericho’s The Best, & The Future of Candice

A DIFFERENT KIND OF DEBACLE

It’s been mentioned in this space that, given the bleak, bland and boring nature of America’s wrestling product, subjects for this space are hard to find.

Entertainer that I am, I’ve reversed fields on that. Just look for gaps in logic and exploit them. There’s certainly enough out there.

Take the “purchase” of Raw by Donald Trump.

If Trump really did “purchase” Raw, what reason is there for Vince McMahon to hang around? Trump wouldn’t want McMahon to hang around. The new boss can’t get established when the old boss is still present.

Furthermore, WHY would McMahon "sell" Raw? We’re constantly told it’s the best, longest-running weekly series in TV history. We’re constantly told about the McMahon family legacy in sports entertainment. No storyline has been built concerning outstanding debts or lost bets.

No, McMahon just woke up one day and decided to "sell" Raw to Donald Trump, a man with whom he has an aggrieved past. The fabled McMahon wrestling empire, randomly divided and partially sold off out of nowhere.

How, exactly, can Trump improve the product, besides providing it commercial-free? He has ZERO wrestling acumen.

The “sale” of Raw to Donald Trump makes no sense.

So, why was it REALLY done?

That’s pretty obvious.

Every time McMahon comes into public contact with a billionaire from the more legitimate business world, it validates McMahon in his own mind. You don’t need a psychology degree to see McMahon is chock-full of self-loathing. He’s ashamed of how he made his way in the world. That’s why McMahon constantly tries (and fails) to expand beyond wrestling.

Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke is a billionaire, but he wouldn’t play nice. Trump will, or at least on McMahon’s terms to some degree.

The amount of mainstream media McMahon got from the Denver Debacle was undoubtedly the inspiration for Trump’s return to WWE. McMahon figures, with Trump’s cooperation, he can duplicate that mainstream attention and perhaps have a little control on the spin, too.

Thing is, the Denver Debacle was real. That’s why the media came running. Trump’s involvement will get only passing mention.
