Put Up Or Shut Up!

*Has Shawn Michaels really changed? Is his saintly "born again" act legit?

I was around Shawn several times when I was working on Ric Flair’s book. Shawn’s ego as a performer hasn’t diminished, but he certainly contains it. I hesitate to use the word "saintly," but Shawn is definitely committed to his faith and family. That’s no act. It’s reflected in the crosses that adorn his merchandise and his refusal to take part in the seamier portions of some DX skits. I worked with his wife Rebecca (former Nitro Girl Whisper) in WCW, and when I wasn’t staring down those monster jugs, I found her to be very sincere and engaging. I’m sure she’s been a steadying influence.

Look at the latter stages of Shawn’s career. When was the last time he fussed over doing a job? When was the last time he threw a star fit? As Ric’s friend, I will always remember and love Shawn for what he did in Ric’s final WWE match and during the buildup thereof. Shawn was probably a good guy all along. Maybe it took God to bring out the best in him.
