You Can Go Home Again

Mark Madden

The “new” TNA might turn out to be an attempt to recreate the old WCW, and I’m trying to mean that in a good way (and with a straight face).

When WCW was at its ratings peak, Nitro did a 6.0. Raw’s best rating during the Monday Night Wars was 8.1.

Raw did a 3.7 last Monday. TNA Impact did a 1.1 Oct. 22.

A lot of wrestling fans are MIA. Did those people stop watching when the Monday Night Wars ceased? Maybe those people miss the real competition that permeated fake wrestling then. Maybe they were WCW fans.

That’s been ignored in the history of wrestling as rewritten by Vince McMahon. There were loyal WCW fans, and lots of them. I really do think many WCW fans stopped watching wrestling when Nitro went off the air. Believe it or not, they saw WWE as a hokier product, one inferior in many ways.

I know I did. I still do.
