Nick’s 1/11 Raw Review: The Good, The Bad, & The Wrestling

For once I feel like the womens’ division has a purpose on Raw, and that’s something refreshing each week. While I still think a majority of the women on the show have a long way to go in terms of talent, it is nice to see matches taking place between the Divas on a weekly basis that actually mean something. We haven’t seen a useless 6 Divas tag match on Raw in quite some time, and I for one am grateful for that. In the coming weeks we have Gail Kim vs Alicia Fox and Maryse vs Eve Torres. While these two semi-finals matches might not be too memorable, the finals of the tournament, which I would think will feature Kim vs Maryse, should be a fun bout. It’s good to see Gail Kim finding some kind of a place on Raw as of late.

The Miz and MVP were extremely impressive tonight. Although the segment ran a bit too long for my liking, both guys did a hell of a job on the mic and The Miz, especially, continues to impress. This is how a mid-card feud needs to progress. In the past, WWE has made the mistake, too many times, of determining a number one contender to a title, and then having the title match immediately on Raw the following week. The challenger usually loses, and the fued is dumped. This is an absurd way to book offers a championship match with no heat built behind it, but it also wastes a challenger. It was great to see The Miz and MVP go after each other on the mic last night as they were given great material to work with and they both stepped out of their comfort zones. I hope this feud continues through The Royal Rumble, because both of these guys deserve this kind of spot light.
