A British Point of View – PPV’s in the UK?

When will WWE or TNA provide a decent PPV in the UK? (Or another country for that matter?)

Look at the 1992 SummerSlam which took place in the old Wembley Stadium, London, England. If any of you haven’t checked out the NEW Wembley stadium then I strongly suggest that you google it. If WWE held an event in the new Wembley then the capacity has the potential to nearly hit 100,000! If WWE used this venue then I think it would be an international attraction to European and American fans.

The 1992 SummerSlam is highly regarded as one of, or even the best SummerSlam in history. So why hasn’t WWE pushed the PPV option in other countries? Granted they now attend the United Kingdom twice a year to film RAW and Smackdown but they never really got on the band wagon after this.

People form the UK will remember the Rebellion and Insurrection events that WWE held in the late 90’s (along with the first No Mercy event) but I’m not sure even to this day that they were televised in the USA as they never seemed to build them up on weekly television and the title’s never changed hands. That being said, I think the No Mercy was a regular PPV but since then we have had nothing with purpose and meaning.

The world is crying out for different options and if WWE are looking to grow in popularity then surely they have the fan base world wide to produce a one off PPV in a foreign country.

Some people over here really talk about the chances of Wrestlemania coming to the UK, which believe me, I would be in massive support of. After all it would save me lots of money and flying time, but I cannot expect something that has become an American celebration and tradition to come to our shores. This doesn’t stop WWE from putting something else on here.

Why not another Summerslam? It’s ideal and if any American hasn’t had the chance to travel to Europe or see the new Wembley then this would be an ideal situation for them.

This is something I feel WWE or TNA (If they start to grow) should consider. TNA’s next step should be to get an Impact show aired from the UK, or do a normal PPV in a regular arena over here (Especially if there claiming that more people in the UK watch TNA than WWE at the moment) But WWE doesn’t have an excuse in my book.

I’m arguing for the UK largely because this is something they talk about a lot but I would be a massive supporter if they did one elsewhere. Surely there is no harm in testing the waters?

Do you agree? Is there a particular place you feel WWE should go? Do you know of any stadiums that would be suitable for Wrestlemania or SummerSlam outside the US or Canada? Email me at beansontoastuk@msn.com and I’ll try and get some feedback posted here.
