Bret Hart Screws The Miz & Elevates A “Rookies” Career

Justin LaBar

Last fall I wrote about how the return of Bret Hart to the WWE is the last great wish for wrestling fans that could actually happen. Several months later, Hart returned and gave us about a half dozen appearances on RAW which was the build up to the 15 minute beating of Vince McMahon which was slugged as one of the main event contests at WrestleMania.

Sure, we didn’t get much wrestling payoff in the match, if we can even call it that. The true payoff was the music, the sunglasses, the taunts, everything that we came to love and hadn’t experienced via Bret Hart on a WWE show since 1997. I won’t declare his return the greatest ever, but I’ll take it.

So the trick now becomes, how does it end? How do we send him away without making him look bad and without people forgetting about his 5 month return?

On tonight’s commercial free episode of RAW, he is advertised to step in the ring with The Miz with the United States Championship on the line. I am a big fan of The Miz and his work but lets face it, Bret isn’t going to give an old style match like we all would love to see. I don’t think he is capable of doing it and nor will he make himself or The Miz look bad because of that.

So how does it go down? 1 of 2 starts with the same finish.

Start number 1: The match begins very early in the show. Perhaps at the 9:20 mark. The bell rings and within moments the Miz puts on a vicious, or as vicious as he can realistically be on Bret, causing the match to be stopped. This isn’t the end, Bret says before the night is over, there will be a rematch with someone taking my place.

Start number 2: The match is held off until the second hour after being promoted heavy all night. Bret comes out, doesn’t even start the match but through so dialogue says he has someone taking his place, who has the Heart of a Hart, his name is Bryan Danielson.

Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan, no longer on NXT and the rookie of to The Miz, he is a free agent. Tons of back story with him going up against The Miz, the two can easily carry a 15 minute match in this non-stop commercial free episode. Danielson is the perfect candidate, other than one of the Hart Dynasty members to get the endorsement and fight a match in the place of The Hitman. He is a submission wrestler who if you watch his matches has the type of in-ring abilities that outstanding graduates of the famous Hart dungeon walk away with.

If Bret is going to be leaving his weekly role with the WWE like assumed after RAW, than the best thing he could do is get one of the most popular underground wrestling sensations a surprise match with someone he has been in a conflict with and when the United States title.

Even if Bryan Danielson doesn’t win the title, and The Miz gets a dirty win, it still sets up for a rematch down the line between the two.
