Shootin’ Straight: 2011 WrestleMania Predictions & Picks

Hello everyone. I am the Straight Shooter and this is my debut edition of Shootin’ Straight. I plan on entertaining all of you with my thoughts, opinions, reviews, predictions and analysis of the WWE product. Be warned, though, I will not hold back. I will speak my mind. I do not always have a positive view of the goings-on in the wrestling world and will not hesitate to relay my frustrations with you. It is very difficult to please the Straight Shooter and nothing is safe from discussion.

I hope to eventually include a mail bag option where I can answer any questions you may have about my thoughts on various topics. From time to time I will dip in to the fantasy booking world and post my view for the future. Top 5 lists are another feature I plan to include regularly. Everyone enjoys a good top 5 list. I will also review Pay Per View’s, sharing my ideas and ratings for each event I am able to watch.

As time progresses and ideas start to flow, features will be added and Shootin’ Straight will come in to its own hopefully entertaining readers in the process. With all that out of the way, allow me to get to my musings for this week.

Ever since becoming  interested in wrestling back in August of 1999 I have enjoyed compiling WrestleMania prediction cards. As the road to the big show gets close my brain begins working on scenarios that could possibly unfold. I’m sure most avid wrestling fans enter fantasy booking mode from time to time, especially as The “granddaddy of ‘em all” approaches. Surveying the current roster and storylines in effect, I have a list of matches and predictions I believe to be possible for the WM 27.

WWE Championship: John Cena vs. The Miz. I originally figured a Cena vs. Orton match-up would main event the show, but since Miz is doing an exceptional job as Champion I think they will extend his reign until Mania. I would love to see Miz leave with the belt as well, but I think Cena will prevail. Prediction: John Cena.

World Heavyweight Championship: Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio Vs. Rey Mysterio. I dislike triple threat matches for the top titles at WrestleMania but Smackdown’s main event picture is hurting. I don’t see an appealing one-on-one main event level match that has not already been overdone. Therefore, I believe we will see a triple threat match to capitalize on the stars that have been focused on lately. They could even throw Kane or Ziggler in here and make it a four way. There is also an outside chance that Chris Jericho could be involved if he returns. I would much rather have a rematch from last year pitting Edge against Jericho, but I think the triple threat option is more likely. Prediction: Alberto Del Rio.
