Watch a New Trailer For True Detective Season 2

It will be quite a magic trick if the second season of HBO’s True Detective matches the cultural impact of the first season.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto managed to attract movie stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to play the leads of True Detective with visionary direction from Cary Joji Fukunaga.

The second season of True Detective is just over a month away, as Pizzolatto’s new story brings in another all-star cast including Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.

Vaughn portrays career criminal Frank Semyon, a man whose ambitions to go into legitimate businesses are threatened when his partner is murdered. Farrell’s Detective Ray Velcoro is drawn into the unfolding conspiracy as he is torn between his corrupt police department and a mobster who owns him.

McAdams’ Detective Ani Bezzerides may be the closest thing that True Detective has to a hero this season, as she has “uncompromising ethics” which pit her against her police colleagues. Kitsch rounds out the main cast as California Highway Patrol Officer Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran who finds himself engulfed in a scandal.

HBO has released a new trailer for True Detective Season 2 that gives a better taste for who these characters are and what lies ahead.

True Detective Season 2 premieres on HBO on Sunday, June 21.
