Amazon & Netflix Reject Hannibal Season 4

Last week, the cast of Hannibal was released from their contracts shortly after the series was canceled by NBC after three seasons. And today’s news isn’t any better.

On twitter, Hannibal executive producer and showrunner Bryan Fuller wrote “I’m sorry to report @amazin and @netflix have passed on Hannibal. But we’re still investigating possibilities.”

While Fuller is still holding out hope for a miracle finish, this may be the death knell for Hannibal. Netflix was a remote chance at best, but Amazon was the most likely destination for Hannibal since it already holds the streaming rights for the first three seasons.

According to Deadline, Amazon’s rejection of Hannibal came because Fuller is tied to American Gods on STARZ, and he wouldn’t be available to serve as showrunner on Hannibal for up to full year. Amazon simply wasn’t willing to wait around that long.

Without the cast or Fuller under contract for Hannibal Season 4, there appears to be little incentive for anyone to come riding to the rescue of this critically acclaimed series.
