Netflix, Hulu and ITV Lead Race For New Show with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammon and James May

Streaming services Netflix and Hulu along with UK broadcaster ITV are believed to be the front-runners of the race to secure a brand new show starring former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

The trio of presenters are believed to be on the lookout for companies that will host a new show, which will reportedly mimic the popular format of the BBC car show, with Variety claiming that Netflix, Hulu and ITV have all extended offers to them.

Clarkson has been fuelling speculation about a new show having already been commissioned, tweeting: “My new car was built yesterday and this morning, passed quality control. I’m very excited.”

The BBC opted to not renew Clarkson’s Top Gear contract after the presenter physically assaulted a member of the show’s production team, with it now set to be relaunched with Chris Evans as host after May and Hammond stepped down from their positions. The final episode of Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May as hosts aired last month, and though it was predicted that it would be the most-watched episode of the show ever, it pulled in an audience of 5.3 million, which more-or-less matched the average viewership of the entirety of its final series.

Clarkson tweeted that he was “so sorry” that the show had ended the way that he did, writing: “Many many thanks for all your support and encouragement over the years. So sad and sorry it’s ended like this.”
