HBO Signs ‘Game of Thrones’ Stars Through Season 7

A constant worry among “Game of Thrones” fans is that series creator George R.R. Martin won’t get a chance to finish his sixth and seventh novels before the TV show overtakes him. But as of today, fans don’t have to worry about any major recastings when the series enters its final stretch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has renegotiated its contracts with several of the primary “Game of Thrones” stars. In return for accepting an option for “Game of Thrones” Season 7, the actors and actresses will see an increase in salary for the fifth and sixth seasons that will place them among the highest paid performers on cable.

Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau received the highest rates among the cast after renegotiating their deals in tandem. Natalie Dormer, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and other performers will also receive a bump in pay… but they won’t be making as much as the previously named performers. Additionally, other performers on the show will see a much smaller increase in salary.

The new deals are HBO’s tacit admission of the series’ importance to the network. “Game of Thrones” ranks among the most watched HBO original series of all time and its viewership has dramatically increased each season.

It’s worth noting that the new deals did not include a potential eighth season of “Game of Thrones,” which may indicate that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were serious when they said that the series will probably wrap up after seven seasons.

“Game of Thrones” Season 5 is currently filming and it will premiere on HBO in Spring 2015.
