Halle Berry Will Star In New CBS Series ‘Extant’

Next year, CBS will add “Extant” to its summer lineup after an intense bidding war between the networks to land the series. Now the creative team behind “Extant” have found their lead performer.

Halle Berry has signed on to “Extant” for her first leading role in television. Berry will play an astronaut who returns to her family on Earth after a solo mission in space sets the stage for “events that ultimately will change the course of human history.”

“Extant” executive producer Steven Spielberg released a statement that said “There’s only one Halle Berry and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career. As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her.”

Berry added her own statement: “For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I’ll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one.”

This marks Berry’s first TV stint since a 1991 run on “Knots Landing.” Berry is primarily known for her feature film roles in Monster’s Ball, Die Another Day, Cloud Atlas, Bulworth, Swordfish, Gothika, the first three X-Men films and Catwoman. Berry is also one of the few actresses to have won both the Oscar for Best Actress and the Razzie Award for the Worst Actress.

“Extant” was created by Mickey Fisher and it will run for 13 episodes in Summer 2014 on CBS.
