6 Manscaping Tips You Should Know

In case you’re somehow wondering what manscaping tips are for, or what manscaping is all about (where have you been?), here is a dictionary definition: the removal or trimming of hair on a man’s body for cosmetic purposes. The key phrase here is cosmetic purpose.

I am old school, but it seems contradictory to me that today we have a growing trend of bearded men that have a clean-shaven body. Styles and trends come and go. However, keeping your body hair under control is not just a metrosexual (straight man who really focuses on grooming and appearance) thing anymore. It’s a sign of the times, a trend in the bedroom and on the beach. A modern man is expected to be well taken care of. That being said, public opinion polls report that manscaping is a confidence boost for men of today anyway, so why not give it a try based on that alone?

So, if you’ve decided to take that path, let us help you by pointing out the top manscaping tips for a better and more pleasurable experience.

Get the right tool for the job. Personal preference plays a part as well, of course. You might go with a classic trimmer like the Braun Cruzer 6 Beard and Head Trimmer, a shaver like Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 2100, a razor (any Gillette safety razor or straight edge razor will do), or you can go alternative with wax strips like Parissa Men’s Wax Strips, laser hair removal, etc.

6 Manscaping Tips You Should Know:

Safety First

There are well-known health and safety shaving tips most of us know, but we should still mention them. Prepare your skin for shaving with hot water. Consider taking a shower or doing it while in the shower. Be sure to always use a clean blade when shaving with a razor. Be sure to clean your blade after shaving. If you use an electric razor, replace the rotary blades or foil after a few months. Always shave in the direction of your hair growth. You don’t have to shave completely all the time. And not all body parts should be clean shaven. Clean your trimmer after use. Use waxes and creams to avoid getting cuts in sensitive and even not so sensitive areas. Reduce the appearance of redness and skin irritation with shaving lotions or less invasive after shave creams. Most importantly, don’t rush things, take your time when shaving.

Pecs and Pits

You can shave your chest, just keep in mind it can be incredibly uncomfortable. The idea here is keeping it neat and tidy before anything else. The same goes for your armpits. Do not let it get too out of control, though. And try not to leave any defined lines between your smooth skin parts and hairy parts.

Back and Shoulders

In case you have excessive hair on your back or shoulders, consider professional waxing or even laser removal before razor/trimmer option. First of all, it’s much easier to have someone else take care of it and second, you will avoid serious injuries that are likely to happen when using a razor.

Underneath your Unmentionables

Mow down the bush just enough to keep it nice, short, and neat. Using a trimmer rather than razor is the best option. Do not overdo it, because you risk skin irritation. The goal here is to make you feel comfortable and make it look as natural as possible.

Oh, and don’t shave your legs, arms, and your butt, unless you’re an Olympic swimmer or a model.

That’s it for your basic manscaping tips! Grooming is a matter of personal preference in the end, so opinions on what to keep or not to keep shaved or trimmed varies from person to person. All you really need is a basic trimmer and enough sense to know not to join the freak show once you’re done.
