Florence And The Machine are Replacing Foo Fighters as Glastonbury Headliners

Florence And The Machine have been confirmed as the Foo Fighters’ replacements for the Friday evening headline slot.

Foo Fighters’ scheduled performance at the festival was cancelled after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg on-stage during a recent live show, and Glastonbury’s organisers have hurriedly pulled in the British band to take over the slot.

A statement made on the festival’s official website reads: “We’re very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday.”

Emily Eavis, organiser and daughter of founder Michael Eavis, said: “Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”

Dave Grohl broke his leg during a performance in Sweden, forcing him to cancel the Foo Fighters’ Glastonbury appearance.

The Vaccines had previously bemoaned the appointment of The Who as the festival’s Sunday headliners, branding the decision as “safe” and saying that Florence should have been given the opportunity.  “I know she’s playing anyway, but people are complaining about the lack of women at the top of festival bills and the lack of new artists,” frontman Justin Young said. “There’s a great artist who’s huge as well and progressing in more than one sense of the word. Whether that’s your thing or not I think it would’ve been a really big statement if Glastonbury put her at the top of the bill.”

Though she and her band been given the headline slot in rather unfortunate circumstances, they certainly deserve the chance to take to the Pyramid Stage given their swift rise to prominence in the UK music scene, even if Foo Fighters fans will certainly be left disappointed by this new announcement.
