triple J has expanded the lineup for 40th birthday celebration Beat The Drum, adding a star-studded list of home-grown acts to join the all-Australian lineup.
Joining the previously announced Hilltop Hoods, The Preatures, You Am I and Vance Joy at the January 16 event at Sydney’s The Domain are headliners Gotye and former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns.
Also included in the latest lineup announcement are Bernard Fanning, Megan Washington, Sarah Blasko, Dave Faulkner from the Hoodoo Gurus, DZ Deathrays, Hermitude, Illy, Horrorshow, Paul Dempsey, Drapht and Briggs with Trials (check out the full lineup below).
The influential broadcaster has promised “heaps of surprises along the way, including some incredible acoustic arrangements, unexpected collaborations and covers of legendary Australian hits”.
Gotye, aka Wally De Backer, hit up triple j studios on Tuesday to discuss the radio station’s 40th anniversary party.
“It’s going to be a huge day,” he said. “It’s exciting for me because I haven’t played any Gotye stuff for a year and a half now.”
“(I will) do a couple of songs though I’m hoping to a special little original piece that ties into the sound history of triple j… there’s materials being passed back and forth.
“I’m going to have a sort of sample-based set-up, my five-piece band up there… all mashing pads and keys and playing sample instruments.”
