New Michael Jackson Album ‘XSCAPE’ to Arrive in May

It was bound to happen at some point: A new album will soon be released by Michael Jackson,  despite the fact that he’s been dead for five years. Epic Records announced a May 13th release for the record, titled XSCAPE, which will include 8 previously unheard new tracks produced by Epic Records Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid.

Reid was reportedly given unfettered access to the Jackson archives, which included vocals recorded by Michael Jackson but were never released.

Co-executors from Jackson’s estate, John Branca and John McClain said: “Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision.”

Timbaland will also contribute, leading a team that also includes producers Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon and John McClain. According to Reid, the album will have a more “contemporized” sound.

In a press release Reid said: “Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world…Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”
