Fuji Rock Festival Hints At Amazing Splendour In The Grass Lineup

The release of the Fuji Rock Festival lineup this week may be a precursor to a similar 2014 Splendour In The Grass bill.

We’re still a whopping five months out from Splendour’s three-day run in late July, but if the lineup to Japan’s Fuji Rock is anything to go by, then it’s time to start getting excited.

2014 will see Fuji and Splendour In The Grass take place over the same weekend (Friday, July 25 – Sunday, July 27), enabling bands to switch between the two countries between the first and last days of each festival.

The connection between the two festivals has strengthened in recent years with a number of acts choosing to play in both Japan and Australia, including double-ups in recent years by Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters And Men, Haim, Jack White, At The Drive-In, The Kooks, The Shins  and Django Django.

Fuji headliners Kanye West and Jack Johnson are unlikely to take part in the Splendour festivities this year due to their own considerable Aussie tours a little too far ahead of the Australia’s premier winter festival, however a number of other massive international acts should still be on their way Down Under.

Kanye West Announces Australian Tour

Among the 27 artists named in the first Fuji lineup announcement are Basement Jaxx, Welsh rock outfit Manic Street Preachers, John Butler Trio, Franz Ferdinand, Bloody Beetroots, Bombay Bicycle Club, SBTRKT and folk-rock band The Waterboys; a handful of which could be potentially heading to Australia for Splendour In The Grass, as well as the previously rumoured Outkast, London Grammar, Sky Ferreira and Vincent McMorrow
