Well here’s quite the bizarre story.

In case you’ve been living under a rock (or in a sewer), you already know that the movie IT has been reeling in big bucks as people flock to see that creepy clown in action. But there’s someone that isn’t too happy with the movie at all: the Burger King Russian division. Let us explain.

The company has filed a complaint with Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) and they are demanding that IT be completely banned in their country. Why? Because they believe that the clown, Pennywise, looks just like Ronald McDonald and because of that works as an advertisement for their rivals McDonald’s.

Here’s what a spokeswoman for FAS said:

“We can’t be concerned with the content of the film because the writer and director have their own creative understanding of any character.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, there is no time frame for consideration of complaints of that kind. And the movie is still being shown in Russia and chances are it will remain that way. Then again, Ronald is still a hell of a lot scarier than Pennywise can ever be.
